Yes, Prime Ministerial candidate?

Can Shri Advani's mild rebuke to the attackers of women be interpreted as support?

Can Shri Advani's mild rebuke to the attackers of women be interpreted as support?

On Saturday, the BJP’s Prime Ministerial Candidate (isn’t that how he likes to be known these days?) Shri Lal Krishna Advani spoke in Bangalore at an “anti-terror” rally reportedly attended by over 20,000 students. The attendees were not there by choice; they had been coerced (the state education department had directed colleges under the Bangalore University to ensure 100 percent attendance at the rally).

Sniff… fascism is in the air.

Here, Shri Advani made the first remarks by any BJP leader condemning the pub incident in Mangalore. He said the attack was against “Indian culture and ethos” and that there was “no compromise”. Ahead of the polls, what else can one expect to hear?

Of course, on the subject of the subsequent attacks on women in Bangalore, Shri Advani was laconic. On his blog, he says just this much:  “I have read in newspapers reports about some hoodlums attacking girls in “western attire” in Bangalore. I strongly condemn these attacks.”

Cute. I have also read such reports in newspapers. Does that mean he’s not completely assured that these incidents occurred and that they need to be dealt with firmly?

Hey, you and I can condemn an incident. It’s the most convenient thing to say. As a prime ministerial candidate (that title is a bit of a speed-bump, what?), don’t we expect a plan of action from Shri Advani on how he is going to ensure that such incidents never happen again in the state or anywhere in India?

Writing about the genesis of the Pink Chaddi Campaign in an opinion column in Tehelka, Nisha Susan, an anchor of the campaign, made a chilling observation that could not have better worded:

Living in India has now begun to feel like being the only adult in a room full of violent, overweight children. You never know what will offend someone and constantly live in fear.

So, since the rally’s theme was ‘anti-terror’, will Shri Advani kindly consent to be the adult here? For a start, he can take some disciplinary action against his violent, overweight children – among them luminaries such as the venerable Home Minister of Karnataka and the Chief  Minister of the Fascist Hindu State of Gujarat?

Dream on…

    Hey Bijoy!
Really wonderful to see your toons and your viewpoints… can’t imagine you doodling every day just for your own blog….
btw, i suggest you have your own domain name and promote it rather than WordPress’s. Works for you in the long run… you should know… SEO and all that!
I made the same mistake. Was on WordPress for almost two years before i realised to have one of my own (http://www.asterix786,com).

working on transfer ? It takes 2 minutes to import a wordpress.com blog to wordpress installed on your domain .
It’s always good to have a serparate domain when you are posting political issues..
who knows some day BJP/sriramsena will force wordpress.com to remove the blog !!

Advani is a loser and they think they could win the whole loksabha elections just because they won in karrnataka , he is day dreaming !

    Hey Bijoy,

Hope you are doing well. It’s a dichotomy that you are up against the right wing in your blog’s…….The Right Wing of India is considered liberal in US…. Fortunately we have ended up into a two party system atleast through some liberal democracy….

I guess you are in touch with the times to pick on the Right wing, but do not forget the extreme excesses carried out by the Congress govt during Emergency,ANTI SIKH Riots,BOFORS etc….

Rahul Gandhi is known for pocketing 2billion dollars in cash through the swiss bank account for the RUSSIAN DEFENCE CONTRACTS that India has been doling out since socialist days. This has been highlighted in the book STATE within a STATE BY by Yevgenia Albats .

Now it is sad that Indian Tax payers money finds its route through Russia back into SWISS BANK ACCOUNTS…. POVERTY STRICKEN THIRD WORLD INDIAN have seen ITALIAN MAFIA operating in their own backyard.

    Hello Santo,

    Hope you are well!

While I am not a fan of the Right or the Left, neither am I a whole-hearted supporter of the UPA’s politics. But given to choose between the NDA and the UPA, my mind is made up. I will not support a party that openly divides society on religious grounds. That’s petty and unconstitutional. As a citizen I have asked myself the question: which of the two are a lesser evil?

Further, the BJP in its pre-poll promises embarrassed itself by trying to take a tough stance on controlling terror and then made an ass of itself with its claims to bring back Indian money stashed away in Swiss banks. Laughable. It appeared as though the NDA’s entire election strategy was tabled a few weekends before the nation went to the hustings.

I do not sympathise with a party whose leadership is in tatters and whose next-in-line leaders are an inept bunch.

One of their better leaders, Yashwant Sinha, has left the party. Jaswant Singh has all but done the same. Pramod Mahajan is dead. Vajpayee only clinically alive. Advani’s a sore loser.

Who are they left with? Narendra Modi?

Boss, if he becomes PM, will the US grant him the visa that they have so long denied him?
